ROCOCO ART AND FASHION IN UKRAINIAN CONTEMPORARY AND HISTORICAL CONTEXTS
During the years of independence, Ukrainian art has experienced many transformations and influences. In search of their style the authors use various media. But, having been oversaturated with experiments, Ukrainian art is gradually returning to the traditions and cultural codes of the past.
Characterized by whimsical, playful and graceful motifs, the Rococo artistic style manifested itself not only in its homeland – in France – but also became a famous trend throughout Europe. So in the 18th century, Rococo reaches Ukraine and is reflected in Ukrainian art and fashion. A few centuries later, the culture of the past is reflected in the artifacts of modern life. Therefore, even in Ukrainian art and fashion of the 21st century, one can also see some meanings and elements dictated by the Rococo style. The article explores how the Rococo style continues to influence modern Ukrainian culture. Artists and designers adapt and interpret the Rococo in unique ways, creating works of art and fashion that reflect the period's ornate and playful aesthetic. Analyzing the key features and characteristics of the style, in particular its emphasis on grace, ornamentation and playfulness, this article highlights the unique ways in which Ukrainian artists and designers interpreted the Rococo with specific examples of the last thirty years. Thus, the article attempts to analyze the art of contemporary Ukrainian artists V. Ryabchenko, I. Konovalov and K. Biletina. The authors work in completely different genres and media, but all of them in their works refer to the characteristic techniques inherent in Rococo art. In particular, Vasily Ryabchenko often depicts fairy-tale princes and princesses who find themselves in typical rococo settings. While Igor Konovalov uses only small symbolic elements that can refer the viewer to the Rococo aesthetics. But Ekaterina Biletina, with her long-term project "Ukrainian Portrait", does not explore so much artistic activity as Rococo fashion.
